Good thing it's dry and not wet!

The drywall work is now essentially finished. The addition has been enclosed for a few weeks now, and things are warm and dry inside - that's in contrast with the outside, where we are finally getting rain after months of dry weather.

Drywall on its way up

There is some drywall on the ceiling now!

Dryer is in place

They made a cut in the wall of the laundry room today, which will allow enough space for the washer and dryer to sit side-by-side.

All the world's a stage?

When we came home today things looked very different simply because the plastic sheet separating the addition from the rest of the house was taken down. Tatiana noted that when viewed from the addition, our living/dining room look like a T.V. set. Not sure if these pictures really capture it . . .

Plumbing away

Some more delays of late, but today the plumber did some work on the laundry room. New pipes and vents were added so that the washing machine can take its rightful place next to the dryer.

Picture this

This is the drywall photo that I was not able to upload last week.

Dust is on it's way

There are stacks of drywall on the porch now, ready to go. Yesterday we noticed some screen material for the porch is hanging around as well.

When I got home today it did not seem like much had been done. There was a blow torch on the floor of the addition - I can't figure out what they were using that for.

For some reason I am not able to upload the picture of the waiting drywall that I took a few minutes ago . . guess I will try again tomorrow.

Keeping us warm

They have been installing insulation for the past two days. Looks like it is pretty much done now. Drywall is stacked outside - ready to go. Time to get dusty, I guess.

Sliding door

This is a shot of the new sliding door, which leads out to the porch from the addition.

Curious cat

I am going to try again to upload a shot of the cat checking out the plastic sheet. For some reason I was only able to upload one image on Friday. She has been enjoying the new space, and darts around the edge of the plastic regularly so that she can wander about on the wooden sub-floor.

Walls are coming down

They took down the wall and installed the large metal I-beam today. It appears as if everything is stable . . . Tatiana was worried that the entire structure would come crashing down. It's hard to capture the appearance with a camera at the moment because there is a plastic sheet in place of the wall, in order to cut down on dust and help with the draftiness - although the new outer wall is closed in it is not insulated yet. They did install the sliding door as well.

The cat is enjoying exploring the new space. Unfortunately I was not quick enough and just missed one of the cutest moments ever when she tried to climb through a hole in the plastic sheet, got stuck halfway through, and had to back out. :-)

Slow going

Not much happened during the past week. A couple of the guys from the crew were out of town. They worked on the door frame for the slider leading to the porch, and cleaned up the area under the deck. They also added downspouts and wired for electricity.

The wall is coming down today, so I should have pictures of more dramatic changes soon.

Stairs at last

It's been a week since I posted! The delay is partly because I was quite busy, but also because the progress has not seemed quite as dramatic. It looked like like the wall demolition was imminent last week, but we are still waiting on that. The stairs are, however, finally finished, which means I don't need a pole vault to get up to the deck. The windows are also in, and we are just waiting on the door before the space will be enclosed and the wall can come down.

Today they finished the railing around the deck and put siding on the new outer wall. They are re-using the old siding, which I did not expect, but I can't really complain if I am going to "walk the walk" on the importance of reducing the use of virgin materials. Plus, this way the siding blends in with the rest of the house and our neighbors unit.
